School of Mechanical Systems Engineering in Kookmin University was established in 1974 in the name of Department of Mechanical Systems Engineering. The Department of Mechanics and Design and the Department of Automotive Engineering that were started in 1976 and 1992 respectively merged into the School of Mechanical and Automotive Engineering in 1997, which became the School of Mechanical Systems Engineering in 2010 after the Department of Automotive Engineering was separated.
The school provides the curriculum on fundamental theories and disciplines required in the mechanical engineering in the first two years of the school. The design courses such as the creative design and the capstone design follow in the last two years. The courses are continuously updated to fulfill the needs of the related industries. By completing the curriculum, the students are able to acquire practical design abilities that can be put to use in the diverse field of engineering.
Especially, in order to satisfy the recent industrial requirements, the curriculum concentrates on the three areas :
(1) Mechanical systems engineering, (2) Mechanical convergence engineering. (3) Mechanical and energy engineering.
